Executive Vice President of Reservoir Engineering

Jim Doherty is the Executive Vice President of Reservoir Engineering at Riley Exploration-Permian, LLC. with 40 years’ experience working with major and independent (private and publicly traded) E&P companies. In 2009, he joined Riley as Executive Vice President of Reservoir Engineering. Prior to that, Jim was COO and then CEO of Windsor Energy Group, the predecessor company to Diamondback Energy. At Windsor, he redirected the company’s focus to high potential, repeatable low risk oil opportunities in the Bakken Shale (70,000 net acres, 23 horizontal wells in 2007-2008) and the Permian Basin (35,000 net acres in the Wolfberry Trend, 46 wells drilled in 2008). From 2004-2007, he was the Unconventional Resources Manager for Southwestern Energy, evaluating and developing the Fayetteville Shale. Previously, Doherty held engineering and management positions at Devon Energy (1996-2004) where he was the lead in assessing and recommending the Mitchell Energy $3 billion acquisition of the Barnett Shale in 2001. He was the Manager of New Ventures-U.S. Onshore for Kerr-McGee (1995-1996). He began his oil and gas career in 1977 at Sun Oil, Co. Jim holds a BS in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, and is a licensed Registered Professional Engineer in Texas and member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
